Another Country Wants to Decrease The Population!

Good Morning, Everyone! Here we are in the United States free to do anything we want, to a point. Remember when China decided to limit the number of children people could have? This was not too long ago. The Evening News programs showed people in China walking in the park with a baby in a stroller. An American reporter with a translator talked with the parents. The reporter’s objective was to identify parents that were against this obvious attack on their personal freedom. He did, but the parents did not want to be seen on national TV.

The camera man showed the man’s feet as the reporter spoke to him. The translator let the reporter and the world know that the parent thought this law infringed on his right to do anything he wanted behind closed doors, as long as he could support his family. Soon after that report, China advised the population that they could give their little girl children up for adoption or they could keep their daughters and try to have a little boy. When a family had a boy child, they were prohibited by law to have any more children. I think this law has subsequently been lifted.

This morning, I received a trackback from a newspaper article from Bangladesh. Here we go again. The government is working on the means to control the population by limiting the number of children in a family to 1. Apparently, the family with 1 child would receive a government perk like preferential treatment when the child was ready for college. The child would receive a scholarship of sorts to college.

I have to tell you that it would have been difficult for me to limit my family size. Years ago, when I was in my 20s, I wanted to have 5 children or more. All I could think of was having a loving husband and a large family. My children were my whole life. The Lord thought better about my wishes and gave me 3 beautiful children, two girls and a boy, who have made me very proud.

Living in another country and having to abide by laws like limiting my family size probably wouldn’t bother me as much if there was no democratic government and I did not have a say or the right to vote. Well, I do live in a democratic country, the United States of America. So far, our President and the Congress have not decreed that we have to limit our family size to 1 child. I’m sure if this happened in our country, there would be an enormous amount of controversy before it could be passed by both the Senate and the House of Representatives. If this was the only way to solve an over population problem, I’m sure there would be a lot of people expressing their views, either for, against, or no view. However, in a country like Bangladesh, where over population could mean that people would go without food, shelter, and clothing (the most basic of rights as identified by Maslow); I would naturally do my part to prevent it. If preventing over population meant that the size of my family could only be one, then I would do what had to be done. How about you? What would you do?

I wonder about what will happen to the children already born when it comes to being educated in the country’s colleges. Would these children be eligible for the scholarships? Hopefully, these children would not be penalized because they were born before the law was enacted. If I were a parent in Bangladesh and my children were penalized, I would be knocking on the politicians doors demanding equal rights for all children.

I know! I’m expressing my viewpoint because I know I can. I hope the people of Bangladesh are allowed to express their viewpoints about limiting the population to one child per family. The incentive for parents to do this is in essence “free education” for their child. This is an excellent incentive as this type of scholarship is not available for all children.

At some point, a Congressman or Senator may be enacting a Bill recommending the same thing here in some over populated area of the U.S. What type of incentive would be proposed or how would families benefit by going along with the Bill after it became law? This is certainly something to think about, isn’t it? Hopefully, our country wouldn’t ever do this, but you never know. We just have to live our lives one day at a time. Every day is new. We can only hope that we will not use up our natural resources to the point where we would have to limit our population.

This is something we all have to internalize for ourselves. Think about it and pray! God will help us, all we have to do is ask.
